Dr Krzysztof Wojtas

Dr Krzysztof Wojtas – Head of Fish Policy

Dr Krzysztof Wojtas

Krzysztof leads our international ‘Rethink Fish’ team and projects aimed at improving the welfare of aquatic animals.

Krzysztof and his team have produced several reports on topics, such as the effects of intensive feed-based aquaculture on wild fish stocks and food security, farmed fish welfare and octopus farming. His work focuses on the fight to get fish welfare recognised by the European Union animal welfare legislation and get the topic of aquatic animal welfare more embedded in conservation, environment protection efforts and the wider food systems debate.

With a PhD in animal welfare with a special focus on fish, Krzysztof has also worked as an Assistant Professor at the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences and as a consultant on fish welfare for Brussels-based, lobbying organisation, Eurogroup for Animals, before joining Compassion.

He has appeared on TV programmes including BBC Countryfile and has been quoted in a wide range of online, print and broadcast media outlets including The Guardian and the Daily Mail.
