Zhao Wanping is deputy director of Anhui Provincial Academy of Agriculture Sciences and the vice chairman of the selection committee of the poverty alleviation award of the State Council. In March 2017, he took the lead in submitting a proposal on speeding up the formulation of farm animal welfare law at the fifth session of the 12th National People's Congress. In March 2019, he proposed establishing a law on the protection and management of companion animals at the second session of the 13th National People's Congress. He has won the title of China's Animal Welfare Public Promotion Ambassador.
