Accessibility

This website has been designed for the widest possible audience, regardless of disability, capability or technology, and can be used with a screenreader, screen magnifier and other access technologies.

Accessibility guidelines

All site pages aim to conform to the high levels of accessibility set in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. These guidelines are the internationally recognised benchmark on improving access to the web for people with disabilities. ciwf.org meets level AA with the following exceptions:

  • We are currently unable to provide audio descriptions or subtitles (captions) for every video on the site
  • Twitter and Facebook (etc.) 'share' links on pages are only partially accessible.

Web technologies and software

The site has also been built to conform to W3C standards for HTML and CSS. The site should display correctly in all popular web browsers, and degrades gracefully in older browsers. The site also uses Javascript to improve interactivity and YouTube's video player. These technologies are not relied upon and the website works perfectly well without them. Where they have been used, they meet the same high levels of accessibility as the rest of the site.

Changing settings to make websites easier to use

Using your web browser, you can make sites easier to browse and read. This includes changing the size and colour of text and the background colours. You can also make other helpful changes in your browser and on your computer generally. To find out what else you can do, visit the BBC site 'My Web, My Way'.
